Villa Makassar is a ten room hotel in the Kasbah, at 20 derb Chtouka. The house follows a riad plan, patio and galleries, but the decoration is Art Deco all the way through: every room is named after an artist or a movement of the 1920s and 1930s, Mondrian, Ruhlmann, Leleu, Rodchenko, Delaunay, Sassoon. Shagreen, parchment, Macassar ebony, rosewood, Iranian onyx, Tahitian mother of pearl: the furniture and objects were gathered piece by piece from around the world. On the ground floor a heated pool runs along the 17th century ramparts of Moulay Ismail. There are two jacuzzis, one on the roof with a view over the medina and one indoors, plus a hammam and a spa that works with organic products. The roof turns into a bar at sunset. Rooms go from 17 m² for the Mondrian to 51 m² for the Ruhlmann suite, in four categories: Superior, Deluxe, Junior Suite and Deluxe Suite. All have air conditioning, TV, wifi, an espresso machine, a minibar and a safe. The Delaunay has its own jacuzzi, the Brondy an onyx shower screen. The in house restaurant, Le Makassar, serves Moroccan food from noon to 11 pm, tagines, couscous, pastilla, alongside international dishes, with a piano in the evening.
