About
The 2-day Toubkal trek is one of the finest in North Africa: ascent to the Mouflons refuge (3,207 m), then summit at sunrise. You don't need to be an experienced mountaineer, but good physical fitness is required.
Imlil valley is the main starting point. You'll pass mules loaded with supplies, Berber guides in djellabas, schoolchildren walking down the mountain. Ourika valley, more accessible, offers waterfalls, villages and gardens. Oukaïmeden, a ski resort at 3,200 m, is open January to March.
Staying with a local family (gîte) is an authentic experience: shared tajine, sunset over the peaks, absolute silence at night.
