Marrakech on a Budget: Best Tips for Affordable Accommodation & Stays

Marrakech has a reputation for being expensive — and it can be, if you book through major platforms and eat at tourist restaurants. But our local team knows the real prices. Here is how to enjoy Marrakech while keeping your budget in check.

Accommodation: Real 2026 Prices

Prices vary enormously depending on the season and how you book. Here are verified rates from our collection:

• Cocon Hivernage — 1-bedroom apartment for 2, from €45/night (rated 4.5). Ideal for a couple.

• Riad De Vinci — 19 rooms, from €64/night (rated 4.4, 492 reviews). Large riad, great score, affordable.

• Riad Djemanna — 10 rooms, from €68/night (rated 4.7, 237 reviews). Excellent value for money.

The Golden Rule: Book Direct and Save 20%

Airbnb and Booking.com charge between 15% and 25% commission on every reservation. This commission is passed on to the price you pay. By booking directly via WhatsApp (+212 711 529 349), you access the owner rate — on average 20% less than the platforms. No online payment, 24/7 concierge included.

Charming Riad Qarya — Priced on Request, Rated 4.7

Charming Riad Qarya (rated 4.7 out of 42 reviews) is a good example of a property that comes in significantly cheaper when booked directly vs the platforms. Ask for a quote via our concierge.

Eating in Marrakech Without Overspending

• Fresh orange juice at Jemaa el-Fna: 4–5 MAD (€0.40). The best value in Marrakech.

• Tagine + bread + mint tea at a local medina restaurant: 40–60 MAD (€4–6) per person.

• Merguez or kefta sandwich at the Jemaa el-Fna evening market: 15–25 MAD (€1.50–2.50).

• Avoid tourist terraces around the square — same dish, three times the price.

Transport: Budget-Friendly Options

• Red petit taxi within the medina: 10–20 MAD per journey. Agree the price before you get in.

• Alsa bus to/from the airport: 30 MAD (€3) vs 70–100 MAD for a taxi. Similar journey time.

• Horse-drawn carriage in tourist areas: negotiate beforehand (50–80 MAD for a ride).

Most Affordable Neighbourhoods to Stay In

Guéliz (the modern district) often has cheaper apartments than the medina, with Western comforts. Less character, but more practical. Hivernage is the good compromise: calm, modern, and a 10-minute walk from Jemaa el-Fna.

Budget Activity Tips

• The souks are free — browse without buying.

• Majorelle Garden: 100 MAD (€10). Opening at 8 am avoids the crowds.

• Public hammam (hammam beldi) in the medina: 15–30 MAD. Tourists: negotiate the entry price.

• Agafay desert excursion in a shared minivan: from 300–400 MAD per person.
